Derek Sweijen graduated as a physical therapist from Leiden University of Applied Sciences in 2016. In recent years, he has specialized in sports physical therapy, counseling both amateur and elite athletes. His passion lies in actively working with patients; he derives great energy and satisfaction from seeing athletes able to resume their sport at the desired level. Derek also teaches athletes how to better listen to their own bodies in order to prevent future injuries. An avid runner with three marathons to his name, he understands the physical and mental challenges of sports like no other.<\/p>\n

In his treatments, Derek focuses on self-management, listening, educating, counseling and actively engaging with patients. He helps people achieve a level of performance they might not achieve on their own. In addition to the physical causes of a complaint, Derek also addresses broader recovery-impeding factors, such as stress, sleep, nutrition and anxiety.
